Here is a very useful and insightful demo of Oracle DataGuard Switchover and DataGuard Broker.

At CDSI, we are often called upon to implement Oracle DataGuard for our clients who need a solid disaster recovery solution.  Many of our implementations link RAC clustered databases to remote DataGuard environments and these demonstration videos show how switchover occurs, especially when managed through the DataGuard Broker interface.

Whilst we can effectively cause a graceful switchover through SQL commands, the use of the DataGuard broker is preferable, especially given its simplicity and reliability.
